What Is the Pelvic Floor, Really? Let’s Talk About It.

Hey there!

Let’s chat about something that doesn’t get nearly enough attention but plays a HUGE role in how we feel in our bodies every single day: the pelvic floor.

If you’ve ever wondered what it actually is, you’re not alone. I talk to women all the time—postpartum moms, busy professionals, active athletes—who’ve heard the term but don’t really know what it means or why it even matters. So, let’s break it down.

So... What Is the Pelvic Floor?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles (yes, muscles!) that sit like a hammock or sling at the bottom of your pelvis. These muscles stretch from your pubic bone in the front to your tailbone in the back and from sit bone to sit bone side-to-side.

They're like the unsung heroes of your core. While your abs tend to get all the credit, your pelvic floor works 24/7, supporting your bladder, uterus, rectum, and other pelvic organs. It helps control your bladder and bowel movements, supports your spine and posture, and plays a major role in sex and childbirth.

Yep, all that from a set of muscles most of us weren’t even taught to think about!

Signs Your Pelvic Floor Might Need a Little Love

Here’s the thing: like any other muscle group, the pelvic floor can become weak, tight, overworked, or just not function as well as it should. And when that happens, it can show up as:

  • Leaking pee when you laugh, sneeze, or work out

  • Feeling like something is "falling out" down there (that’s pelvic organ prolapse)

  • Pelvic pain or pressure

  • Constipation or trouble fully emptying your bowels

  • Pain with sex or tampon use

  • Core instability or low back pain

Sound familiar? You’re not alone. These issues are so common—but they’re not “just part of being a woman” or something you have to live with.

Your Pelvic Floor Deserves Care

As a pelvic health PTA and wellness coach, I’m super passionate about helping women reconnect with their pelvic floor in empowering, practical, and mindful ways. Whether you’ve just had a baby, are navigating perimenopause, or simply want to feel stronger and more aligned in your body, supporting your pelvic floor can be a total game-changer.

We’re talking better posture, stronger core, more ease in movement, and more confidence in your body.

Let’s Make It Simple

Learning to support your pelvic floor doesn’t have to be scary or complicated. It can start with small, mindful movements. With breath. With awareness. And yes, sometimes with the help of a guide (like me!) who can walk alongside you.

If you’re curious, struggling, or just want to know more, I’d love to connect. Your pelvic floor isn’t just a set of muscles—it’s the foundation of your core and the root of so much wellness and vitality.

Let’s give it the attention it deserves.

With care,
